My name is Francisca Marín, but my family and close friends call me Panchi. I´m 18 years old, my favorite color is green and I looooove musicals. Hamilton, Les Mis, Heathers, I love Broadway haha.
I chose ENGLISH
for two REASONS:
1- It’s what my dad studied, he always talks so highly about this carrier I got excited about it too.
2- I still remember the teacher who first taught me English. All my classmates knew English but I couldn’t understand it at all, that is, until Miss Berni, the best teacher I ever had, offered to teach me how to write and draw a story in English.
I also like anime, though I don’t watch it as much anymore. But here’s a gif of one of my favorite characters, hero Red Riot, who (even though it doesn’t look like it) is a sunshine boy with a sweetheart personality <3
For our Phonetics class’s week assignment, we had to record a story from a website called “Learning English”. I chose The Tell-Tale Heart from Edgar Allan Poe, because it was one of my favourite stories back when I was in high school.
For this week’s phonetic class, we had to choose 3 different news from a website and record them, trying to be as fluid as possible.
We were supposed to choose news in their level 2 category, but after the first one, I decided to do the rest in their level 3, as a challenge to myself. I don’t think it was that hard, even if I might have made some pronunciation mistakes.

First news: US tariffs affect people and businesses – level 2
Oh God, it’s been a year already? It feels like 2024 just started, but now it’s 2025 somehow? Time really moves at lightening speed.
Hello to everyone who’s reading this post! I want to start this assignment with the goals I would like to achieve for this semester. Ok, so, first of all I want to establish my goals for Language III. I don’t really think my goals changed that much in a year, since I have similar objectives. For example, I still want to pass all my grades (I feel this is both a goal and an expectation of mine), I also still want to improve and become more fluent and confident in my English abilities.
Now, as of challenges, I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous about what awaits for me in this next few months, because I’ve heard it gets much more difficult than the first semester. However, although it could be a more challenging semester, I think I can do it, so long as I keep practicing and manage my time.
I think that’s it for now: improve my skills, get better overall, survive, and don’t forget to enjoy all the little things that bring me joy, and have fun with my friends and family! See you in the future!
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is our last Flatmates upload of the year. It went by so fast! To make it special, my partners Valentina and Fátima decided to choose an episode that was dramatic (“A mobile mystery”), and decided to add even more drama to it.
Here are the audios
First time me as Woman; Valentina as Alice; Fátima as Khalid
Second time me as Khalid; Valentina as Woman; Fátima as Alice
Third time me as Alice; Valentina as Khalid; Fátima as Woman

Alice:
So how was it?
Khalid:
I can’t quite believe I’m saying this but it actually wasn’t that bad!
Alice:
Really? That dentist must have been something special. Oh, sorry Khalid, excuse me. Oh it’s Paul. Hello darling. Haven’t heard from you in ages. What have you been up to?
Woman:
Who am I speaking to?
Alice:
I beg your pardon? Who am I? Who are you, more like it?
Woman:
No, I asked you first.
Alice:
No, you phoned me. So you must know who I am but I don’t know who you are. You’re calling from Dr Paul Laver’s phone. Have you stolen it?
Woman:
If there’s any stealing going on, it’s you who’s doing it.
Alice:
What are you talking about?
Woman:
Home wrecker, husband stealer!
Alice:
Mrs Laver? Lucy?
Woman:
So you do know who I am! You truly are a disgusting, shameless witch!
Alice:
Wow, there! There’s no need to insult me, what did I even do to you!?
Khalid:
Alice? Why are you screaming? Is everything OK?
Woman:
What did you do, you dare ask me!? You’ve been seeing my husband!
Alice:
I’m fine, Khalid, just give me a minute… Look, lady, as far as I know, you left Paul, and he’s trying to move on, so please don’t bother me.
Khalid:
Is that Mrs Laver?
Woman:
How dare you! Paul and I are married, we have children together!
Alice:
You abandoned them! You have no right to calm me a husband stealer!
Khalid:
Calm down Alice, she’s not worth it.
Woman
You don’t know what you’re talking about! Stay away from my family!
Alice
You know what? I can’t deal with this today. hangs up
Hello there, we’re back with the Flatmates episodes, and this week we have special guests: my usual partner Fátima and the new addition Valentina <3, both fun friends whom I adore dearly.
Anyways, here are the audios:
First time: me as Ellie; Fátima as Alice and Valentina as Instructor.
Second time: me as Instructor; Fátima as Ellie and Valentina as Alice.
Third time: me as Alice; Fátima Instructor and Valentina as Ellie.
Script:
Ellie
Watch me Alice! Look how fast I’m going!
Alice
Wow! You’re doing really well Ellie.
Instructor
OK and walk! Good Dusty, good Ellie. And halt. Now, dismount Ellie.
Ellie
Oh that was fantastic! I love Dusty. She’s the best horse in the world. Isn’t she beautiful?
Alice
She certainly is. So have you enjoyed yourself?
Ellie
Oh Alice it was brilliant. Thank you so much.
Alice
Oh it’s my pleasure. I’m glad you had fun. I did too.
Instructor
OK, enough of the love-fest you two. There’s a horse that needs to be untacked and a stable that needs mucking out. Are you ready to get to work young lady?
Ellie
Yeah!
Alice
Do you want me to record you so you can send a greeting to your dad?
Instructor
Sorry, no recording is allowed here.
Ellie
Aww, I wanted to have something to remember this moment.
Alice
Is there any way I can just take a quick picture at least? I won’t post it anywhere.
Instructor
Sorry, but rules are rules. You can take an official picture with our photographer at the end.
Ellie
Oh that’s still great!
Alice
Yes, you can get a perfect picture and have something to remind you of this day!
Instructor
It costs 8$ dollars a picture, and two pictures for 12$.
Ellie
Mm, I would really like more than one picture, but dad only gave me 10$
Alice
Don’t worry about it, I’ll pay for the pictures, now let’s go!
Hello! This post is for our phonetics class, where we can to talk about our strong and week points, what was hard for us, and maybe give advice for our other classmates.
This was definitely a tough unit, but I’m excited for what’s left of the year!
Aaaand here we go with another Flatmates chapter, this time it’s episode 119: “A quiet drink”.
Here are the audios:
First time me as Paul; Fátima as Alice.
Second time me as Alice; Fátima as Paul
Script:
Episode 119: A quiet drink
Paul:
So here’s your gin and tonic. Cheers!
Alice:
Cheers! Here’s to holidays. I’ve got a few days off next week. I can’t wait for a break from work.
Paul:
That’ll be nice. I wish I was as enthusiastic about half-term!
Alice:
Have you got any plans?
Paul:
Well, I’ve got a few activities planned for both Jake and Ellie but I have to work on Tuesday and Wednesday and I do want to spend some quality time with Jake. I think we need some father-son time alone.
Alice:
Well, I could help out there, if you like.
Paul:
How so?
Alice:
Well, maybe I could mend a few bridges with Ellie and we could have some girly fun at the same time.
Paul
You know what? That sounds like a great idea.
Alice
You think so? I don’t want to cause any more problems.
Paul
Don’t worry about that. I’m sure that with time Ellie will totally adore you.
Alice
You really believe that?
Paul
Of course I do, you truly are a wonderful person.
Alice
You’re the sweetest Paul, I just hope this girly hang out can be fun for Ellie too.
Paul
I’m sure you will both have a great time together.
Hi there! Welcome to a new season! Things are different now though, because we had to get creative and continue the dialogues with our own words! For the first time, I worked in a group with Tomi and Naomi mimi, it was rather fun!
Here are the recordings:
First time me as Paul; Tomi as Alice; Mimi as Ellie
Second time me as Ellie; Tomi as Paul; Mimi as Alice
Third time me as Alice; Tomi as Ellie; Mimi as Paul:
You must know. I flew off the handle the other morning and I just wanted to say how sorry I was. I wanted everything to go well with me and Ellie, but then she said she didn’t like me and I overreacted and and ..
Paul
And I was tired but that’s no excuse for my behaviour either. I don’t think I realised just how badly shaken I’ve been since Lucy left me. I knew I was being overprotective of Ellie but I just couldn’t help myself.
Alice
Oh Paul. What a mess we’re in!
Paul
I’m so sorry Alice.
Alice
Can we try again?
Ellie:
Dad!
Paul
Ellie?
Alice
Ellie, what are you doing here?
Ellie
I had to come here when I heard you were meeting up with the old hag.
Alice
Hey!
Paul
Ellie! Don’t call Alice that!
Ellie
But she wants to take you away from me, so you’ll forget about mom!
Alice
Oh, Ellie, that’s not true at all…
Paul
Ellie, sweetie, why would you ever think that? I could never forget your mother, and nobody could ever take me away from you princess.
Ellie
You promise?
Paul
Of course
Alice
Ellie… I’m sorry you felt like I was stealing your father, I promise I would never take him away from you, that was not my intention at all.
Ellie
It’s just that… I miss my mom, and I don’t want dad to forget about mom, because then he might forget me too.
Alice
Ellie, I promise that nothing in this world could ever make your father forget you, you’re his whole world
Paul
That’s right. Look, Ellie, I love you more than anything in this world, and you will always be number one, so don’t think that it will ever change, you’re my treasure, honey.
For our Writing class we had to talk about Chilean traditions. I chose one of my all-time favorite activities: flying kites!
Chilean traditions
Kite flying is one of the most underrated Chilean traditions. When talking about Chilean traditions during this patriotic times, one that is usually overlooked as a childish game is kite flying, which basically consists in, as the name says, flying a kite, usually with a flag design representing our country, but the colors and shapes might also vary.
One of the reasons why it is such a great tradition is that it allows kids from any age to enjoy a very fun part of their culture. People can enjoy it as an outdoor activity, and even make a game out of it. For example, Chileans can make kite flying into a competition of the one that gets their kite to fly the highest, wins. They can even implement traditional food as a reward for the winner (though the reward could just be getting to spend a good quality time with close ones).
Another reason why it is underrated is that people don’t fully grasp the cultural importance it has in our culture, especially in “Fiestas Patrias”. A demonstration of this is that people usually view this traditional activity as a simple pastime for children, and don’t even consider the background and importance of this two-hundred year old tradition and how it has evolved over time to the version we know of today.
Overall, kite flying should be more appreciated and recognized as the traditional activity and its cultural importance in Chile’s culture that it is, and not be overlooked as just another game for children.
